My Experience with Photography
I enjoyed reflecting on my experience taking photos. It gave me a lot to think about, considering that the easily accessible and good cameras (in smartphones) didn’t exist until I was in high school. It’s interesting that I can be in a class with students who were somewhat introduced to smartphones/iPods a lot earlier and were therefore able to take better pictures for a longer time.
80’s Photography Reflection
This assignment was a little more challenging. I have never really had an eye for art, so making myself try to interpret the technique behind it was a little more difficult, especially with my lack of experience in the photography field. I do think that I stood up to the challenge and did a pretty decent job.
I loved this assignment. It was different. It challenged me to look at things from a different perspective. Awesome. I struggled with a few, like the door and the shoes, because I felt like it was hard to get a unique perspective of such a normal thing. I might continue to do this in my spare time to help increase my skills.
My first assignment was an assignment where you take a photo of something up close and try to get your readers to guess what it is. I struggled to figure out what may be good for this project because I feel like a lot of things are identifiable, but by capturing something with brighter color, I think it was a bit off putting. This one was 3 stars.
The next assignment was one where I take photos of what I carry in my backpack/purse and explain their importance. I have a few things that I use on a daily basis that I thought would be interesting to share. For the photography with this one, I tried to make sure that it was focused, balanced, and not disturbed by the glare of the lights. This assignment was 2.5 stars.
I really enjoyed the “Create a Warning Sign” assignment. As mentioned in my post, I had a good chuckle to myself combining two 80’s movies to create the poster. I do, however, really need to learn how to use photoshop better. This assignment was 2.5 stars.
I then did an assignment where I created a playlist that creates a story or a sentence. For this one, I used only 80’s music to stick to our theme. It was a little harder than I thought because I was limited to a specific genre, but I think I made it work. This assignment was 3 stars.
For my final assignment, I did a quick and simple one where I described my favorite photo. I thoroughly enjoyed doing this assignment because my favorite photo is a spur of the moment one that turned out great and holds a lot of meaning to me. It was worth 1.5 stars.
Total: 12.5 stars.
I wasn’t too inspired by the daily creates this week. I’ve learned that if I don’t think of something right away, I think about it too long and then lose the creativity that comes with it. I try to only do the ones that inspire me off the bat.
I can’t make myself an ice cream flavor because I can’t eat it. I decided to go with a sorbet that makes everyone happy and is healthier!
I loved this create. Politics aside, give me an opportunity to mock this man and I will happily act on it. He can’t get offended since he does it all the time.
This DC was a little more time-consuming than others because I had to read an old fairy tale, but I think it was worth it. It’s interesting to see how different the original stories were and how we have changed them to make them more family friendly.
I tried to participate as much as I could this week. I got to see a lot of cool things that people made and it really inspired me to get better with my skills, whether it is photography, photoshop, or graphic design. Posts such as the Forest Gump photo and averaged dancer portrait do a really good job at demonstrating photoshop and I thought they did the assignments so well! I also really enjoyed the posts that deal with photography (such as this, this, and this) because you get to see things from other people’s point of view, and it is really cool to hear about the inspiration/emotion behind the pictures.
In other terms of participation, I also filled out the posts of the week poll.
This week was a bit out of my comfort zone, but I did really enjoy it. I think I developed my photography skills a bit more and I feel like looking at things with a different perspective. I’m excited to see what the rest of the semester holds!
