These two articles were very different from each other, but they were both insightful in their own ways.
The first article gets really detailed about all of the different aspects that go into design. I can make sense of a lot of them, but I feel like it’s overwhelming. Do people who do design think about every single one of those things while creating something?
It’s possible, but I feel like the second article is more accurate and seems to convey the message that design is more spontaneous and an art form that will incorporate some of the other mentioned methods rather than focus on them.
I’m not trying to trash talk design, though. I think that it’s super cool and I applaud everyone who can do it. I just know that if I were doing the designing, I would think of some things like purpose, balance, and visuals, but I feel as if there is no way that I could incorporate everything that was mentioned between these two articles.
But, I’m also not an artist and I’ve never had a drop of artistic talent. Maybe these characteristics are something that artists think about a lot. If that’s the case, props to them.
I’m going to take a lot of these principles with me this week as I try my hand at graphic design. Maybe it will be more useful than I think it will.
